JEFFERSON, FDR, & MLK

We enjoyed a great 90 minute evening stroll along the tidal basin to the Jeffferson memorial, Franklin Delano Roosevelt memorial, and the Martin Luther King.  After our long day on the bus, we all enjoyed the beautiful walk with just a slight chill in the air. We appreciated the beauty of the artistry of each place, but we also paused to talk about each person honored by the memorial. For example:
• Jefferson wrote that "All men are created equal" yet he had slaves.
• FDR was known for his " fireside chats" during WWII and was the longest serving president who was elected for four terms, but died during his third term. With a statue showing him in a wheelchair, we explained how he died from complications from polio.
• MLK's monument captured numerous quotes that spoke to his hope and drive for peace and equity. The image below and accompanying quote speak to the hope he brought to so many.
